The word 'granite' was actually originated from a Latin word called "granum", which means a grain. Basically, granite is an igneous crystalline rock that is formed from magma. Granite is composed of materials like quartz, feldspar, orthoclase, and plagioclase, hornblende along with slight amount of accessory ingredients such as magnetite, garnet, zircon and apatite. Granite is generally white or light brown in color but they are also available in pink, gray or black colours based on their chemistry and mineralogy.Applications of Granite
Granite is mostly found in the form of gigantic crystalline structure which is always hard and tough, and it is this distinguished characteristic of granite; which is making it the most desirable stone for being used in many architectural and constructive applications. Granite had been in use since from the early era; when they were largely used for constructing buildings and monuments. Nowadays, it has been extensively used as a dimension stone and as flooring tiles in household areas, commercial structures as well as for various monuments like tombstones, headstones etc. Polished granite is becoming an optimal choice for kitchen countertops due to its high durability and appealing qualities.
The granite tiles can be used effectively on walls and floors in either as one- piece tiled format or could be alternatively mixed in with other materials or stones, such as stainless steel or along with the flamed and brushed granite. The granite tiles are extremely hard wearing and are ideal for use in high commuting areas of the home, as well as areas where resistance to staining is important.
